And Google. Beautiful, beautiful Google, holder of all the secret discount codes.
Let me explain: Last spring, I was buying my mom some Laura Mercier Soufflé Body Crème for Mother’s Day. Sephora offered it at a slightly lower price than anyone else on the Web, but their shipping costs were borderline ridiculous. But I started checking out anyway.
Then I noticed that empty white box beckoning for a discount code I didn’t have. I searched my inbox for old Sephora free shipping coupons. Nada. I looked through my wallet. Nothing.
And then I typed “free shipping code Sephora” into Google.
Within 30 seconds, I’d found a coupon code for free shipping. Considering I Google everything else, it seems so obvious. And yet.
Googling for discount codes doesn’t always yield savings. Sometimes the discount codes that show up don’t work. Sometimes it requires perseverance and searching several sites.
But usually, the search is worth it. Last week I saved $30 on two domain names I purchased from GoDaddy.com, thanks to a minute of coupon pre-checkout Googling.
